Starting in the 1880’s more than 100,000 young women left home to become waitresses in Harvey Houses along the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. The Harvey company also nurtured arts and crafts of Native Americans and developed regional design aesthetics in buildings like the La Fonda in Santa Fe and the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The documentary includes interviews from living Harvey Girls. Harvey Girls is directed by Katrina Parker, a University of New Mexico graduate.
